Head of PR and Communications

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Head of Public Relations & Comms to lead and manage the public relations efforts for our consortium of institutions teaching tertiary education (HND, Degrees to PHDs). The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing the collective brand, reputation, and visibility of the group while supporting the individual institutions within it.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic PR Planning:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive PR strategy aligned with the overarching mission and goals of the gedu group.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership across member institutions to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment

 

Media and Stakeholder Relations:

  • Establish and nurture relationships with media outlets, journalists, and industry influencers to promote the achievements and initiatives of the gedu group.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, interview requests, and public appearances on behalf of the group.

 

Brand Management:

  • Lead efforts to maintain and enhance the group's brand identity and reputation in coordination with the branding guidelines of each member institution.
  • Ensure uniform messaging and consistent branding across all communication channels.

 

Crisis Communication:

  • Develop and maintain a robust crisis communication plan that addresses potential challenges that may impact the reputation of the gedu group or its member institutions.
  • Provide guidance and support in managing and mitigating PR crises effectively.

 

Content Strategy and Development:

  • Oversee the creation of compelling and engaging content that highlights the collective and individual accomplishments, research, and impact of the member institutions.
  • Supervise the PR team in generating content for press releases, articles, blogs, social media, and other communication channels.

 

Internal and External Collaboration:

  • Foster collaboration and communication among the PR teams of member institutions to maximize collective efforts and share best practices.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to identify and promote partnerships, collaborations, and initiatives that reflect the group's values and objectives.

 

Budget Oversight:

  • Develop and manage the PR department's budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for effective PR campaigns and initiatives.
  • Monitor expenditures and provide regular financial reports to group leadership.

 

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Utilize data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of PR campaigns and provide actionable insights to improve strategies.
  • Prepare regular reports on PR activities, media coverage, and the impact on the group's reputation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of [6] years of progressive experience in public relations, with [4] years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful PR strategies for complex organizations, preferably in the education sector.
  • Strong media relationships and a demonstrated ability to secure positive media coverage.
  • Crisis communication and reputation management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in PR and media monitoring tools.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align PR efforts with the group's goals and values.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Collaborative and adept at building relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with the higher education sector is a plus.
